Be informed and stay safe. Learn ways to protect yourself. For questions or to request an accommodation, contact Rowena Rye (206-684-0500 or seniors@seattle.gov).

Sunday, September 18, 2016, 2:00 p.m.

From childhood on, we’re barraged by messages that it’s sad to be old. That wrinkles are embarrassing, and old people useless. Author and activist Ashton Applewhite believed them too—until she realized where this prejudice comes from and the damage it does. Lively, funny, and deeply researched, This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism traces Applewhite’s journey from apprehensive boomer to pro-aging radical, and in the process debunks myth after myth about late life. This conversation with the author of This Chair Rocks includes local readers sharing favorite passages from the book and a lively Q&A about age bias, where it comes from, and what we can do about it. Three pricing options ($20–$45), with tickets available online (click here). For more information, contact Karen Bystrom at Sound Generations (karenby@soundgenerations.org).
