Get Free Tax Help from United Way’s Free Tax Volunteer Team

Volunteers help file taxes at Untied Way of King County's Free Tax Volunteer Team tax site

It’s the beginning of the year, and you know what that means— tax forms are going to start arriving in your mailbox any day now. Maybe they have already! Dealing with all those tax forms can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. United Way of King County is here to help you file your taxes at no cost.

Every year, United Way’s Free Tax Volunteer Team offers free tax preparation services at one of our many tax sites in the Puget Sound Region. This year, we have 20 in-person locations, as well as a virtual tax site, where you can go to get your taxes filed. And if you’re behind on your taxes, we can help get you current. We can file back taxes through to 2019.

At our sites, you’ll be assisted by IRS-certified volunteers from all around the greater Seattle community, including fellow seniors who’ve been giving their time to the Free Tax Team for many years.

Please visit our website, FreeTaxExperts.org, for more information on our services, including a map showing the locations of our tax sites and hours of operation.

Wondering about eligibility?

We can help with most types of work income, such as W-2 and 1099 self-employment income, as well as cash income, retirement, Social Security, interest, and stocks (though we request that you bring along a summary page for your stock earnings). Our income thresholds for this year are $80,000 for single individuals without dependents, and $96,000 for other filing statuses (married, with or without dependents, or single with dependents). For information about the types of returns we are not able to prepare, please view our “General Eligibility” section on our website, as well as the FAQ.

We hope to see you this season.

Best wishes from the United Way of King County Free Tax Team!
