Help Shape a More Age- and Dementia-Friendly Washington
Washington is taking an important step toward creating communities where people can thrive at every stage of life, and your voice is a key part of that effort.
In 2024, Washington officially joined national networks focused on supporting older adults and individuals living with dementia. This statewide initiative brings together partners across public health, aging services, and community organizations to ensure residents can live with dignity, independence, and connection as they age.
Now, the next step is building an Age- and Dementia-Friendly Washington Action Plan, and community input is essential.
Join a Community Forum This April
Residents across the state are invited to participate in Community Forums for Action Planning taking place in April 2026. These virtual sessions are designed to gather ideas, feedback, and lived experiences from people throughout Washington.
During each session, participants will:
-
Learn about the Age- and Dementia-Friendly Washington framework.
-
Hear key data and trends about aging and dementia in our state.
-
Share ideas and suggestions to help shape future policies and programs.
These forums are a space for open conversation. While final decisions won’t be made during the sessions, every idea shared will help guide the statewide action plan. Register and join a forum here.

Building on Local Momentum
Communities across Washington—from Seattle to Spokane and beyond—have already embraced age-and dementia-friendly efforts. These include safer, more walkable neighborhoods, expanded housing options, and inclusive programs like memory-friendly recreation activities.
This statewide plan builds on that momentum, aiming to expand these efforts and make supportive, inclusive communities the norm across Washington.

Your experiences, ideas, and perspective matter. Whether you’re a caregiver, a professional, or simply someone who wants to help improve your community, these forums offer a meaningful way to get involved.
By participating, you’re helping shape a future where everyone in Washington can age with confidence, connection, and support.
