Aging Is Our Future: 2027–2030 Area Plan for Seattle and King County

Conversations about aging are happening, and we want you at the table!

Aging and Disability Services (ADS) is one of 13 Area Agencies on Aging—or AAAs—throughout Washington state, and one of more than 600 throughout the country. All AAAs are mandated through the Older Americans Act, established in 1965.

One of the most important responsibilities of an Area Agency on Aging is the creation of a four-year Area Plan for the area it serves. The Area Plan is the roadmap we follow to further our vision of a community where people thrive at every stage of life. It describes the function of Aging and Disability Services as the local Area Agency on Aging, presents relevant demographic trends, and outlines the major goals and objectives to be achieved over the course of four years.

Now is the time to provide input that will shape the next four years!

Development of the next Area Plan is underway. The draft 2027–2030 Area Plan for Seattle and King County will be ready for public review on our website in July. Our draft is the result of more than a year of discovery, discussion, and feedback.

Topics in the draft include:

• Expanding dementia support programming
• Adding options for pickup, carry out, or similar “grab-and-go” meals in our nutrition programs
• Preserving local gathering spaces for social connectivity
• And more

Whether you’re an older adult, a person with a disability, a service provider, a caregiver, or someone who cares, your input helps us understand how we can make our community a better place to grow up and grow old. Share your thoughts via the options below to inform the 2027-2030 Area Plan for Seattle and King County.

Comment on the draft plan

A five-week public comment period will begin on July 13 and end on Aug. 17, 2026. During that time, community members, stakeholders and any other interested parties are invited to review and comment on the plan.

• Take 5 minutes to complete the comment form by Aug. 17, 2026, 12 a.m. PDT.

• Submit written comment to Allison.Boll@seattle.gov by Aug. 17, 2026, 12 am. PDT.

Attend a public hearing

Aging and Disability Services and the Planning and Allocations Committee of the Aging and Disability Services Advisory Council invites the public to comment on the plan at any one of the following public hearings:

The Area Plan will be submitted to the State Unit on Aging (part of the Washington State DSHS Home and Community Living Administration) on Oct. 1, 2026. Following state approval, the final plan will be posted online.
