Adaptive Cycling–Lifelong Biking!

Riding a two-wheeled bike can feel more dangerous with age. Changes in bone density and muscle function, difficulty with balance, or other physical challenges can make riding a bike feel like an activity of the past. But thanks to Outdoors for All, you can keep the joy of riding alive!

Thanks to a partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation, Outdoors for All provides FREE adaptive bike rentals for people who cannot ride a two-wheeled bike for any reason.

What is an adaptive bike?

An adaptive bike is any bike that has additional supports for balance and physical differences; it could have two, three, or even four wheels. The Outdoors for All fleet includes recumbent trikes with three wheels that provide balance, hand-powered trikes for folks who can’t pedal with their legs, and tandems for folks who want to ride together or need someone else to do the steering and braking.

Outdoors for All has had riders over 100 years old use their bikes, so it’s not too late for anyone! Their bikes are available at Magnuson Park in Building 406 (6344 NE 74^th St. Seattle, WA 98115). They are available seven days a week from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. from May to October. There is no charge for daily bike rides; you just need to fill out a registration form upon arrival. Let’s ride!

Outdoors for All is a Seattle-area nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with disabilities through outdoor recreation.
